Bruno Mars & Ajak Deng

I usually draw women, but last year I was inspired to draw men. I do not have a celebrity crush and although many male celebs are good looking, I was not particularly woo'd by any in a long time. I thought I'd create a series dedicated to drawing men I appreciate or appeal to me visually. Also I need to stretch my drawing skills. What attracted me to Bruno Mars was his song, Locked Out of Heaven. His voice and the beat of the music is so passionate. I am not really attracted to him, but I thought he was adorable in a brotherly way. The model Ajak Deng is a Goddess! I love her face. Cold press watercolor paper by Canson. Graphite Pencils. This portrait was started with simple lines and then the rest is drawn in little circles. Forgive me, I like the bad quality of light in these pictures. You can find a better version on Society6 . This was the rough sketch from Fall 2013.  The finished product. Summer 2014.

Modern Muse on Cardboard

I believe some of my best work is taking up real estate in my sketchbook. I wish my bigger pieces looked as good or better. For example, I wanted to draw something pretty but I kept on erasing what I was drawing and ruining my paper. So I decided if I did a quick sketch on cardboard I planned to trash, you know, to get my creative juices flowing... Yep. I know myself. I present to you a sketch of Arizona Muse, from the Estee Lauder Modern Muse ad. The model looks like she could have been a Twin Peaks character with her brand of beauty. Mind you, my rendering of Arizona Muse looks nothing like her, at all. I still like this any way. ;-) Check it out, a print of this is available at  Society6 . Charcoal & Pastel Pencils on Cardboard

Beautiful Imperfection

I decided to draw the model Carman Kass from the Narciso Rodriguez For Her perfume ad. Despite the drawing looking nothing like Kass I still like the results. Here is proof that perfection is not always important. Sometimes imperfection is beautiful too. Say hello to Her at Society6 . Charcoal and Pastel Pencil Drawing by Amber D'Amato The 1st draft that I almost left as is. Obviously looks nothing like the model.
