Lacuna

Lacuna by Amber D'Amato When I was drawing this I was running out of ink and my gold leafing pen was dying. R.I.P. Lacuna (n.) A blank space; a missing part. In college when I was a Creative Writing major with a concentration in poetry, I wrote a poem called, Lacuna Sacrifice. It was about missing my boyfriend who I knew was wrong for me and I was wrong for him. Isn't that odd how we physically get lovesick for someone, like a drug addiction? A year later the movie, Eternal Sunshine for a Spotless Mind, came out. I was moved by the character's desire to erase each other from their minds. It was a beautiful coincidence that the mind erasing business was called, Lacuna. What are the chances? A year after that we started talking again, the ex & I discovered that we both saw that movie and thought about each other while watching it. I wonder if there is a word for that moment in my life? Sometimes you are haunted by people. It doesn't mean you are right for ...

Cingulomania

Cingulomania by Amber D'Amato Nothing like crouching up to someone you love and planting a big kiss on them. Cingulomania (n.) A strong desire to hold a person in your arms.

Gigil

Gigil by Amber D'Amato Gigil (n.) The irresistible urge to squeeze someone because you love them.

Susannah

Inktober Day 31 by Amber D'Amato The last Inktober prompt was Friend. I chose my friend Susannah because she is beautiful, a sweetheart, and confident. I admire her.

Sehnsucht

Sehnsucht by Amber D'Amato Sehnsucht (n.) "The inconsolable longing in the human heart for we know not what" - A yearning for a far, familiar, non-earthly land one can identify as one's home. Women styled like this always look so beautiful to me, like a gorgeous sad song you can't stop listening to. They have the look of angst, discontent and otherworldliness to them. They look like they want to belong somewhere else and are waiting to explore that.

Ukiyo

Ukiyo by Amber D'Amato Ukiyo (n.) literally "The Floating World" - living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life.

Wreck

Inktober Day 30 by Amber D'Amato I probably should have burned the edges of the burn prompt. Oh well. Here's my interpretation of a wreck. ;-) It felt good to burn the edges of this page.

Mermaid

Mermaid by Amber D'Amato I love mermaids. I wonder what a mermaid sushi roll would taste like? Kidding. Yuck.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu by Amber D'Amato Ubuntu (n.) The belief that we are defined by our compassion and kindness towards others. The photo reference I used had a beautiful model that I must draw one day. Absolutely stunning.

Gluggavedur

Gluggavedur by Amber D'Amato I drew this with the intention to nurture my particular line drawing style. I wanted to capture a moment I love dearly, sitting by the window drinking a warm beverage. Ideally, it would be at an adorable cafe with a lovely atmosphere and big windows. Gluggavedur It is an Icelandic word that literally means "window weather." The type of weather that is best appreciated indoors.

Burn

Inktober Day 28 by Amber D'Amato I love Pinterest. I feel like I used it to it's maximum potential. I think this chick in the photo I used to work from is a modern day witch manipulating fire, not self-harming. I hope that's clear. Sending love to the people that are hurting.  xoxo

'tis the Season to be Creepy

Inktober Day 27 by Amber D'Amato I created this for the creepy prompt for Inktober, but I think she just looks like a monster about to twerk. Ha! Oh well.

Ennui

Inktober Day 26. Ennui by Amber D'Amato I used to be obsessed with learning new words. After I lost my job I lost interest in reading or I couldn't focus because I was so stressed out. The only way to relieve my anxiety was to draw or paint. It feels nice to search for foreign words to title my drawings. It's like giving them extra love by incorporating both sides of me, the analytical and the creative.  Ennui (n.) A feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction arising from a lack of occupation or excitement.

Saudade Amor

Inktober Day 21 ~ Saudade Amor by Amber D'Amato When I drew this I felt relaxed. This reminded me of zentangle drawings, which I never tried. I was very surprised by how much love this was given by strangers and friends. I thought, I guess I found my style? If this comes so easily to me & people love it, maybe I found my vein of gold? As you can see in my blog, I don't really stick to a particular style. I am all over the place trying new things. I hope to keep that up and never lose my curiosity for things that inspire me. Saudade (n.) A feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia that is supposedly characteristic of the Portuguese or Brazilian temperament.   Saudade Amor Miss you, love.

I love her.

October 21, 2016 ~ by Amber D'Amato After a few weeks of creating a habit of drawing in my sketchbook I had an urge to draw more than one page. Here's a favorite of mine that other people liked on Instagram as well, but probably not as much as I love it. Haha!

Nemophilist

Inktober Day 20 by Amber D'Amato I think she has plans to explore a creepy dark place. =/ Nemophilist (n.) A haunter of the woods; one who loves the forest and its beauty and solitude.

Gustav Klimt's Dream World

Inktober Day 19 by Amber D'Amato I love Gustav Klimt's art work. I love all the gold, the beautiful women, in a peaceful or passionate dream world. I made a couple of mistakes on this one, but managed to make them work & be a part of the whole.

Inspiration

Before I knew there were Inktober prompts to following, I was searching for inspiration on Pinterest. This particular day I was inspired by Charmaine Olivia 's Instagram feed.  Inktober Day 16 by Amber D'Amato Sketchbook Study of a Charmaine Olivia drawing.

When Drawing Inspires Writing

Inktober Day 15 by Amber D'Amato After drawing this I was inspired to write a children's book. I wrote a 4 page outline and 8 page story draft typed out. Has a drawing of yours ever inspired you?

Gold Leafing Pen

Inktober Day 8 by Amber D'Amato I adore my gold leafing pen because I can carry it with me in my pen & pencil case. I'm drawn to the color gold. It's warmth and shininess. It makes a drawing on toned paper feel more special.

Alien

Inktober Day 7 by Amber D'Amato I don't know why I love dark black eyes? Alien eyes. I don't want them for myself, but I love drawing and painting them.

Inktober Rejects

Ok, no rejections, but there are a couple I look at & they bore me. Here are some... Periods for Pence

Inktober Day 5 by Amber D'Amato I'm scared about this election. Pence is not for women's rights or LGBT rights. This is scary stuff.

Kissy Face

Inktober Day 4 by Amber D'Amato I love the gold eyes. I love gold leaf. I love line drawings.
