My 6th Acrylic Painting! A Self-Portrait named Jouska. I was really feeling the gold, pink, and spring green palette when I first started it. It bored me after seeing it. Plus that Pepto Bismol pink was far too precious. Since I am me, someone who loves beauty in others, I felt a little shy about painting my own brand of beauty. I incorporated my favorite patterns, lines in the hair and dots in the background. Very much my style. I dripped Pebeo paint in gold, pearl, and emerald. I used blue interference paint on the shadows and gold interference paint on the highlights. I smeared big chunks of color on the skin, especially my right arm since I depend on it to paint. Hmm... I think my next painting should be done entirely with my least dominant hand, the left! I realize that this painting does not truly give the impression of me laying down in bed. I look like I am sitting up. Oh well. I feel like when you try to make a plan you make God laugh. Plans always change. =)
Gouache Paint Review Gouache is the same as watercolor because it is a water-based paint, except it is not transparent, it is opaque. Watercolor and gouache can be used together. Gouache should dry to a velvety matte finish. It can sometimes look creamy and chalky. Gouache could appear like an acrylic paint, but it reactivates when you add water to a finished piece like watercolor. Acrylic paint does not reactivate, it dries to a strong plastic-like finish. Gouache is often used in watercolor paintings as a highlight, or to fix a mistake, or an alternative to masking.
