Art Crush ~ Gustav Klimt

Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt

Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt is one of my favorite artists since childhood. In 2017 I had the chance to see his painting, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, at the Neue Galerie in NYC.  It looked bigger than me, and beautiful. What I love and interpret from his art is that his beautiful and colorful subjects are captured with love and celebration.

In New York, Klimt also has art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and The Jewish Museum. I hope to visit Vienna, Austria, where most of his work lives.

Gustav Klimt holding his friend, Katze.

Speculation: He loved cats, which means he probably respected their personal space and boundaries too. I appreciate people who can do that. Although, in the photo he looks like he has the cat in a chokehold.

Goldfish by Gustav Klimt

I often wonder if I love gold because of Klimt's art? I took a 3 question personality test a few years back, and one of the questions was, "What is your favorite color and why?" I said gold because, "...it is a stunning accent that only needs to be added to make a piece of art even better. It makes everything around it shine." According to this test, that's how I view my personality. It makes sense, when I am with my friends or strangers I want to point out the beauty I see in everyone around me. I see myself as a supporting character instead of the main character. I find this so amusing.

I abandoned a drawing of Cassie from Euphoria and stumbled upon this Judith painting below, and was re-inspired by Klimt's Art Nouveau style. I love this idea of using other styles of art. At the end of this blog entry I shared a painting and a link to a video of the painting to show off the gold accents. I thought I would share some of his work first because I love it so much!

Danaë by Gustav Klimt & inspired Inge Prader photo portrayal of Danaë.

Ooh!
I suggest looking at Inge Prader's photo recreations of Klimt's art. They are stunning. Her name is linked.
The photos are gorgeous. Just leave my blog and experience the beauty!
...but first, please check out my watercolor, gold accented, ink drawing below.

OK, here's my ink and watercolor piece that was inspired by Gustav Klimt's style, and the stunningly beautiful flowers moment with Cassie in Euphoria, Season 2... She has an unfinished face because she feels incomplete without a man's validation. She does not see herself clearly. I hope her character pursues therapy in the next season.

Here's the link to the video on TikTok, Art Crush: Gustav Klimt  I chose Beethoven's music because he's Austrian too. Thanks for reading!

Art Show at Seek Coffee

Art Show at Seek Coffee I have two paintings showing at Seek Coffee in Astoria, Queens this Saturday.  They are available for purchase. I will also be selling embellished prints.  Cassie of Euphoria by Amber Art Inspiration Photo from Euphoria I love the famous scene from the 2nd season of Euphoria. Cassie surrounded by flowers is so beautiful and almost religious. I wanted to capture the beautiful but sad moment. I wanted to give it an art nouveau feel. I left her face in pencil because she is not a fully realized woman, she was completely unable to view her worth and dignity which led to her self-sabotage that hurt everyone around her.  Medium: Watercolor, Ink, Gold Leaf, and Pencil. Size: 6x8 on 8x10 watercolor paper. Purchase online: Click Here! Chrysalis by Amber Art I do not have an inspiration photo. I was inspired to draw this after a hard day at work dealing with too many egos. I was exhausted, but hopeful for a rebirth in energy and hope again due to a lon...

Art Supply Review: 6 Gouache Brands Comparison

Gouache Paint Review Gouache is the same as watercolor because it is a water-based paint, except it is not transparent, it is opaque. Watercolor and gouache can be used together. Gouache should dry to a velvety matte finish. It can sometimes look creamy and chalky. Gouache could appear like an acrylic paint, but it reactivates when you add water to a finished piece like watercolor. Acrylic paint does not reactivate, it dries to a strong plastic-like finish. Gouache is often used in watercolor paintings as a highlight, or to fix a mistake, or an alternative to masking.  Gouache Brands Links: Lukas Studio Gouache Savior Faire Gouache Holbein Irodori Artist Gouache Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache Artist's Loft Jelly Gouache Arteza Paint Tubs (Jelly Gouache) How I will judge the gouache I am testing? 1. When motivation wanes...

Pastel & Graphite Drawing I have a crazy amount of public and private Pinterest boards of inspiration. I have a beautiful plethora of art supplies, I don't have everything I want, but I have the basics. Sometimes despite that I don't make art. Why?!?! I don't know. Some weeks go by and I have made nothing. This bums me out. Like I said, I have inspiration, the issue is choosing what to create.  I ask myself: 1. Do I want to paint in watercolor or acrylics?  2. DO I want to draw on cardboard, sketchbook, or beautiful toned paper?  3. If that doesn't give me the push then I flip through Pinterest boards, YouTube videos, and visit my favorite artist's social media pages. 4. Go to an art gallery or museum 5. Walk through an art store 6. Visit the art section of a book store 7. Flip through my collection of art books If those 7 steps don't work, I just let it be and view the creative pause moments as having my antenna out and collecting...
